Techniques When Using Catfish Fishing Tackle

Edit Article |

Posted: Dec 20, 2010 |

If you’ve got all the catfish fishing tackle you’ve been told will land you a monster, but are still yet to get your photo on the forums with a beauty, then hopefully this article may help share some tips and ideas to set you off in the right direction.

The catfish comes from quite a diverse group of fish – accordingly named for their prominent barbels that look similar to a cat’s. The catfish family ranges significantly in both size and form, from the smaller Cory Catfish, to the Giant Catfish of Southeast Asia. Catfish are important as both a source of food as well as a popular sport fish. Though perhaps not being the most beautiful of fish – the common catfish being scaleless like the eel – they are highly regarded as a prize fish due to their reputation for growing to considerable sizes and not giving up a fight easily! Catfish fishing tackle can range significantly, but in general centres around ledgering techniques since catfish can often be found towards the waterbed, and appears to like to hide in dark quiet waters, particularly where sheltered by shrubs and overhanging foliage.

If you have suitable catfish fishing tackle or indeed tackle that suitable for ledgering for the larger fish, probably the best way to get the most from your gear is to choose the correct bait. By all means, it is better to speak to a local fisherman that fishes your spot regularly, as species will vary as well as habits, but by and large deadbaiting and using the right live baits works a charm. Popular deadbaits include eels, roach, carp and rudd, and as previously mentioned, look for sheltered spots where you think the catfish might be likely to hide. When it comes to using live baits with your catfish fishing tackle, you can use the same species as already mentioned and can be fished off the bottom or just below the surface of the water.

Catfish are a great fish to hunt at night time, and you may find them easier to target too. Don’t forget if you’re going to give this a go, to add to you catfish fishing tackle extra warm clothing and night-fishing gear such as might-lights for your floats, bite-alarms, a bivvy bag or a bed chair and extra ‘smelly’ bait!

Barramundi Fishing in Thailand, an Amazing Days Fishing for the Ultimate Predator

Firstly, I have to admit my ignorance, when I was told that there were Barramundi in Thailand I was very surprised. carp dvd

Hello!

Oh how I used to long for the monthly fishing magazine to hit my local shop magazine rack – hoping that there would be an article on carp fishing to some how help me with my struggles in the pursuit of my ‘addition’ the monster carp! This was the 1970’s yet it only seems like yesterday, those were the days when carp fishing was a minority sport unlike today – when it seems everyone and their grandmother goes carp fishing!

There was very little information available, even your fellow successful carp fishermen where you happen to be fishing were, well to put it bluntly – would not even talk to you, let alone pass on a few good fishing tips, it really was a very secretive era.

I remember one very secretive carp fisherman from the old days that was very successful, you would not believe the extremes that this chap would go to, for example when he started his carp angling session, he would lay a large ground sheet down and set up all his tackle here, when he packed up, he carefully rolled the ground sheet up making sure he took every single item of tackle home with him as he just didn’t want anyone to know how he was catching the carp!

This is just unbelievable to today’s modern day carp angler, who incidentally – must be overwhelmed with the amount of information that is available, from several monthly magazines that specialize in carp angling, plus an endless stream of carp fishing DVD’s and books coming out, it’s enough to confuse any beginning carp angler.

Today one of the greatest breakthroughs in learning on ‘How to be a Successful Carp Angler’ is by studying a carp dvd with actual live filming of carp fishing, especially a carp fishing dvd that not only shows actual tactics but specifically concentrates on the underwater filming of how the carp feed in their own environment, this is really an important area that the beginning carp angler should learn, if he/she truly wants to be successful. So take my humble advice and learn about how the carp live / behave in there habitat before moving on to the area of bait, rigs and fishing techniques.

The great thing is just by reading this article YOU have…

shown that you want to be a success. Well right now I want you to check out my website where you’ll find a very special surprise waiting for You… http://www.carp-fishing-techniques.co.uk

Carp Fishing Holidays in France

A milder climate and a large number of lakes make France the perfect location for carp fishing. The country is popular among Britons who travel across the Channel looking for a great catch. Some monster carp cross the 60 lbs mark, and are an angler’s delight. Depending on your budget and desired level of comfort, you ought to head out for some of the most beautiful lakes in France for a carp fishing holiday. Public lakes are inexpensive and considering that there are thousands across the country, you are sure to find a great catch since many are well stocked with carp. Permits are available at most angling shops or pubs. Apart from public lakes, there are a number of privately owned lakes open for carp fishing. They offer accommodations that vary from camp-style to the luxurious and the chances of finding a large stock of carp is relatively high around these lakes. Don’t forget to carry a fishing map which is very useful when you are looking for suitable carp habitat. Besides French owned lakes, there are a number of British-owned lakes that cater to anglers. However, these are more expensive. Some public lakes are administered by local private clubs that look after the welfare of the lake, and are responsible for the administration, maintaining carp stock, and collection of fees from visitors. They usually charge a lower fee for carp fishing. Prior to setting out on your carp fishing holiday make sure the venue has a good record, as you wouldn’t want to jeopardize your whole holiday. Call up the owner if you are heading for a private lake and get as much information as you can. If you are a novice, the secret is to start in smaller lakes and slowly wind your way to the larger waters, otherwise, you may be disappointed. There are plenty of tackle shops in France, however, make sure you leave with the basics in your fishing kit since there might not be a good shop near you. Carry extra hooks, leads, and make sure to carry enough bait. Some areas do allow night fishing so make sure you carry lamps, batteries, and gas. Rules and regulations vary at carp lakes where some allow three rods while other permit four. Tiger nuts are not allowed as bait in most locations. So make sure to check with the local authorities prior to settling down. April through October is usually the best time for carp fishing. Head for Bordeaux if you want to experience night fishing, where it turns cooler at night during summer months. Privately owned lakes such as L’Etang du Chef de Ville, Rainbow Lake, and Eden’s lake offer all inclusive packages and are worth a try provided your budget permits. They will take care of your every need so that you can enjoy your carp fishing vacation. Most are run by expert anglers that are at hand for some advice and tips on how to make a good catch.

For more information about carp fishing in France visit Cretelakes and look at the lakes.

Carp Fishing – Land Monster Carp With These 3 Excellent Tips

Carp Fishing is one of the most challenging and enjoyable forms of sports fishing. What makes it so appealing? Well, there are a lot of reasons fishing enthusiasts enjoy fishing for carp. For one they are big, and make impressive trophies. (Even if the trophy is just a picture of you standing next to your catch.) Secondly, catching a carp isn’t easy. These put up a fight, which is why catching one, especially a big one, feels like such an accomplishment. And, finally, they are abundant. Carp are found all over the world, and there’s a very good chance that there is a lake, pond or stream near you that is filled with them.

So, now that you know why so many people enjoy going after these “big fish,” what do you need to know about actually catching one? Well, here are a few carp fishing tips.

Learn All You Can About Carp

If you have had experience sports fishing, you might know a lot about catching many different kinds of fish. But what you know about other fish, like bass, won’t necessarily apply to carp. Even something as simple as taking the fish out of the water safely, and without damaging your catch, could be different than what you are used to. That is why it is so important that you learn all you can about carp. You want to know where you can find them, the best bait to use, how they differ from other fish…Absorb as much information about carp as you can.

Use Creamed Corn to Bring the Carp to You

Carp are attracted by the smell of corn, so you can use corn to lure them to your fishing spot. So, the next time you go fishing for carp, take a can of creamed corn with you. Take about a handful of the corn and toss it into the water. It won’t be long before there are plenty of carp nearby, ready for the catching.

Be Cautious

Carp are pretty suspicious as far as fish go. They also have pretty sharp senses. So it doesn’t take much to spook them and drive them off. Movement on the water. A sound that they don’t like. So, when you are fishing for carp, it’s important to stay as quiet as possible. You also don’t want to move around a lot, especially if you are on a boat.

But, when it comes to carp fishing, the best tip is to be patient. Patience, and keeping the above tips in mind, will help make your next fishing trip a success.
