How To Improve Your Weekend Carp Fishing Success Right Now!

If you are like most weekend anglers trying to fit fishing in between all kinds of other time-consuming activities, you will know that weekend fishing can be a challenge in terms of achieving really good consistent catch results. But there are many unique tips you can exploit that can seriously multiply your chances and create totally unique opportunities for you that make catches much easier for you compared to other fishermen so read on for them now!

First think about the fish and focus on the fish. Do not think about outside influences not connected with your fish in your water directly. For instance if you have read a carp magazine in the previous week and want to try out a new bait and rig and method because it says its really good, do not act on it. Instead visit your lake mid-week if at all possible in order to learn more about the entire environment the fish are in.

The more you take in the more you form a big picture, a 4 dimensional picture of what is going on in your water, and on the banks. I say a 4 dimensional big picture because this part is you; your thought in response to what you see and feel will influence your thoughts and these will directly influence how you fish. The more you have this kind of biofeedback going on the more suitable and appropriate your fishing will be to the moment in time and the fishing situation right now in the present.

I say this because masses of anglers are fishing in the past thinking that worked previously will work today not realising that fish are such dynamically adaptive beings that they can evade your baits and rigs and methods if not purely because they recognise potentially dangerous scenarios. It is very simple to fool fish into feeling safe and so much more relaxed and more confident and far easier to hook. You remove as many danger reference points from your tackle, rigs, baits and lines and entire fishing approaches that you can possible remove!

The easiest way to fail when weekend fishing is to think that what worked before will work again and again. There are so many waters now under so much fishing pressure from anglers that the same rigs and baits will fail within a matter of weeks when enough fish have been hooked on them. This is no exaggeration on some waters. High nutritional baits are supposed to go on working for years but this is simply not true if you do not adapt their danger reference points to get around fish caution.

I know Gary Bayes of Nashbaits agrees with me on this one – because he basically told me this in so many words, based on his own bait testing experiences. But it is logical that if enough pressure is put on fish from any bait even if it is lobworms or maggots then fish will very soon become cautious and feed on such baits extremely differently (if they actually take such baits anymore at all,) following negative experiences having been hooked on them!

For example I can tell straight that a rig that has a worm on the hair as well as a cut-down pop-up boilie is going to have far more potential for fooling a very experienced and extremely wary cautious old fish, compared to a standard pop-up bait that such a fish has had many thousands of opportunities to deal with and so more easily avoid over the years!

New baits have the edge over baits that have been hooking fish and are used by the majority – of that there is absolutely no doubt. Also there is no doubt that the bigger fish in a water can very definitely be among first to succumb the fastest to newly introduced baits. I make my own homemade baits based on the fish first and not ingredients or recipes; such things are secondary. My main focus is on the properties and characteristics and modes of action of bait substances that get break down or bypass fish resistance to feeding which will naturally transform caution into confidence! What is your focus and how powerful is it; does it even make enough logical sense compared to other forms of focus?

Can you see how powerful this thinking approach is? Compare it to simply buying a bag of readymade baits or even committing to a bait long-term simply because a mate suggested you get on it because it is doing the business! Remember that any bait you can easily get hold of can usually be also exploited by anyone else on your lake – in direct competition to you; thus vastly reducing your chances of catching your target fish the more fish get hooked on that bait over time. This is a very major reason I hate to use readymade baits, but it is not just the unknown factors of who might have used the baits and lost their edge already even for one individual fish.

One of the incredibly important points about success with bait is that ideally they will not resemble any baits that have hooked fish before. If they do then chances are you have just lost huge advantages over the fish which you could have had and are free to everyone!

When you begin your entire fishing approach by thinking and experiencing your bait and rig and entire underwater scenarios just as closely as possible to how a fish might then you will catch loads more fish! Remember that fish sense things in water not in air. The colours and tones and tastes and flavours and smells and palatability of baits and sounds in water and feel and look of rig materials and main lines will be different to what you think they might be to a carp. In part this is because our senses are so vastly dulled compared to fish and we are adapted to live in air not water. Also baits look different to fish at a depth of perhaps 12 feet or 20 down after 12 hours immersion compared to what they might look like in a glass of clear water!

Although fish are more sensitive to different ends of the light spectrum compared to us and tones are very much more important to fish, remember that they do pick up on things most anglers just do not appear to be interested in. for instance the way they can detect weak electrical fields around leads and rigs and baits. The way light penetrates and diffuses in water, how it refracts in water, and how main lines and rig materials will not only not necessarily match the colours of bottom weed and silt and gravel etc, but that fish are perceiving things differently to us because they are acutely aware of tiny details in their environment.

OK so attention to detail is of primary importance and very many weekend anglers do not take anywhere enough care with this and simply copy other anglers and expect things to work out! Your bait recipes and modes of action teamed with how they are perceived by fish are of exceptional importance in actually achieving bites in the first place.

In maximising the impacts of your baits as being different and unique I will say now that I especially do not recommend using any rounded boilies or pellets at all and certainly not barrels or round baits. Why use things that lost their edge years ago if merely because of their basic shape? Sure rounded baits catch but part of that is because the vast majority of anglers insist on using them, but loads of other seriously successful alternatives exist!

Think about it; if you do things based on thinking from the perspective of fish then you are far more likely to succeed in short sessions and longer sessions anyway. If you are out of touch with fish you are really just hoping for some luck to come your way and just working on chance. But modern fishing can be very much about catching fish by design not luck.

For instance, if you do things in unique ways using the right information and knowledge, then you can set up your own feeding area that can out-compete even a natural hot-spot such as a significant bloodworm bed. This is no exaggeration, but it can take someone years to work out the basic bait principles for achieving such things to not only create but to maximise such feeding situations to your very own unique favour. But such edges make fishing success guaranteed!

Weekend catches can be extraordinary far more often when you think about things from differently from the far more detailed perspectives and senses of fish, and when you get and exploit the very best information on how fish really work! How do bait boats help in catching those great carps?

While I do admire the wonders of nature while keeping an eye on my rods, my main target remains to catch some great carps. Let’s imagine we are now sitting at the edge of a pool, alleged to be populated by numerous carps, pike and other fish. We have our rods, bait and we need to decide where to have our swim.

How would you select your swim? Following your fishing experience, trusting your fellow anglers’ opinion, … ? Most of the time we are talking about hard to reach places, which puts us for another challenge: get our rig and bait over to that presumed ideal fishing spot. So we would like to be able to locate the fish and get our rig and bait to that spot with maximum accuracy and minimum risk. We need a tool to transport both bait and rig to the spot where the large fish have their meal.

Thanks to modern technology we have the perfect solution via a radio controlled bait boat. If the rc bait boat is fitted with a fish discoverer, you can finally fulfil all the aspirations of a real carp or pike angler: find the ideal fishing spot and get yourself over to that perfect position with rig and bait to catch them fish. These radio controlled bait boats come in different taste and flavours, so when selecting your rc bait boat you need to always keep in mind your goal and your needs.

Is the function for finding fish with your rc bait boat required?
As mentioned in paragraph above, we want to locate the fish, in which case the fish finder function is necessary.
Be aware of the fact that there are bait boats that only deliver the more common purpose of a bait boat, which is to render the lure on your preferred location. As those rc bait boats do not accept the fish finder option, will not be able to add the fish finder function afterwards.

What is your normal quantity of bait?
The bait boats’ capacity is specified in kg or lbs. If the weight of your bait boat is specified to maximum 0.5kg, you could have to arrange multiple trips if your desired bait quantity is much more. Make up your mind about this specification as it also has implications for the price.

What is the maximum distance from your rod to your swim?
This range is expressed in m or ft and generally varies between 200 and 600m. Exceeding the distance might cause you to lose radio control over your rc bait boat. It is up to you to select the bait boat with the appropriate maximum range in line with your fishing style.

Is fishing at any time of the day a requirement?
Navigation lights and led indicating your bait has dropped will come in handy if you prefer fishing at night or in misty circumstances. Bait boats equipped with gps steering capabilities are ideal for this kind of work, but their high cost makes them less attractive.

What is your budget?
We hope that the selection criteria above allow you to evaluate your needs and choose your bait boat within your budget.

Smart fishing requires keen tools and talent. At heliosonline we provide a bait boat campaign to allow for better selection and use  of your rc bait boat.

Making Beginner Carp Fishing Boilies – Cheap Ingredients And Flavours!

If you are one of the thousands of carp anglers who are turning to making their own homemade baits or are considering it in order to be able to go fishing without unaffordable bait costs, you are in luck! Here is a very revealing article to seriously set you on your way to big fish with massive savings for years to come!

Traditionally carp anglers have used boilies as a way to defeat the attentions of smaller fish because these baits do not in general get whittles away or pulled off the hook or rig very easily unlike paste baits. Boilies can be made for very many functions to suit fishing situations and methods of fishing, from soft and soluble heavy ones to very hard and buoyant ones that can be fished in critically-balanced ways, or mid water or on the surface and so on.

Boiled baits are a more resilient progression of what used to be called specials or carp baits that were pretty much a more customised version of bread or wheat flour paste or dough type baits. Modern carp fishing boilies are often not very different in terms of recipes and ingredients from baits made even as far back as the Sixties.

The advent of the huge upsurge in the promotion and production of soluble fish proteins and their increased availability around the early Seventies and onwards has certainly had a big impact in terms of the success of many carp baits and pellets too for example. The newer generation of predigested fish meal containing boilies and products like marine or halibut pellets containing high levels of these products plus high quality oils and other factors has meant such baits have made quite an impression on catches of carp and catfish and other species too.

Going back in time a few decades, using trout pellet boilies and paste were often almost the normal thing to use on many carp waters in various versions and were certainly very successful, so these things are far from new today. We could begin with a high carbohydrate bait based on ground cereals and flavours but as one of the big advantages of protein baits is their natural nutritional attraction compared to most carbohydrate baits a description of how to make a pellet powder ingredients bait follows:

It is very easy for a beginner to make a homemade bait from ground trout pellet or ground marine halibut pellet powder far more appropriately, using proprietary ground carp pellet powder! Carp pellets are far more ethical as these are actually designed to suit carp dietary essential requirements specifically as opposed to pellets meant for other fish groups such as the salmonids (trout, salmon etc) with different energy and other aspects of essential requirements.

Note; just because a bait catches fish does not mean it is harmless and will not lead to fish damage and diseases in the long run. Fatty liver diseases in carp due to over use of high oil pellets and boilies is a blight on UK big fish angling and I cannot bear to land big carp even over forty pounds with ruddy great livers protruding out of the side of their abdomens where the diet of baits supplied by anglers themselves is leading to these often fatal conditions!

Think about high oil pellets like MacDonalds or crisps and chocolates eaten by many obese people. You can see the fat outside, and sure you see many fat bellied carp that often barely fight when hooked, but imagine how much fat is around the organs and in the tissues of fish fed unhealthy baits 24 hours a day every day week in week out for years; it is not good and leads to completely unnecessary fish fatalities!

I have also found that use of carp pellet type baits out-fish baits based on the vast majority of salmonids pellets in cool water temperatures too. This is very much due to the low oil content of carp pellets. The bulk oils in halibut pellets for instance certainly mess up the digestion rate of carp when temperatures drop and I am still amazed when you see the high oil trout and salmon and halibut pellets being offered or in use in winter; I guess it just shows some angler do not want to catch so many fish!

If you visit carpfishingpellets on the web you will find a whole range of specialist carp pellets and koi feeds for all kinds of stages of growth and different times of year and containing various different formulations and ingredients and additives to suit every fishing situation. You can order these in whole form or in ground form and I consider these products some of the most instant carp catchers for lazy carp bait makers imaginable! They contain the essential nutritional stimulation and attraction needed for reliable short and long-term baits and can be boosted or adapted in multitudes of ways to enhance bait performance.

This past winter I used a winter formulation of koi pellet as an experiment. To this I added binders in the form of very cheap maize and wheat flours just to enable baits to rolled but this is not totally necessary as often pellets contain enough cereal binders that they roll into baits anyway especially when eggs and a little hemp oil for instance is added to smooth the baits in this process.

I named this range of my experimental boilie recipes Borg Cubes from an episode of an old Star Trek episode – I never did get why it was such a cult but the name of this craft made me laugh! With these carp pellets based homemade baits I made the great percentage by rolling prepared dough out and just cutting it with a bread knife into cubes (which takes just a few minutes for kilograms of baits!)

I made my free baits square. My hook baits were made into uneven rectangles (which wobble in the mouth.) Used using these baits in practice carp obviously find these a real challenge when attempting to eject such baits. This is in great contrast to uniformly round, dumbbell or more rounded cylinder or pellet shaped baits. In fact such baits are a big thing of mine!

Bait secrets may seem to all be known right? But this is simply not the case! For instance I am mad keen about making new connections between disparate aspects of life and between all kinds of things that at first sight may first appear completely irrelevant to each other. My own inspiration for making cube baits was not simply to be different and achieve a competitive edge by simply this.

The secret is to solve answers to challenges carp behaviours present us with. In this case it is obvious from my own experiences and first hand observations of carp behaviours that they have evolved incredible skill at avoiding and ejecting hook baits even when fairly well hooked but most of all in spitting out rounded baits most of all. This is because they have had years to develop these skills and most of the big old wary carp which we dream of catching are too many individual degrees masters or masters in the making in these skills. The fact is that irregular angular baits create totally different pressures that carp find much harder to deal with than with more uniformly rounded baits.
