Techniques When Using Catfish Fishing Tackle

Edit Article |

Posted: Dec 20, 2010 |

If you’ve got all the catfish fishing tackle you’ve been told will land you a monster, but are still yet to get your photo on the forums with a beauty, then hopefully this article may help share some tips and ideas to set you off in the right direction.

The catfish comes from quite a diverse group of fish – accordingly named for their prominent barbels that look similar to a cat’s. The catfish family ranges significantly in both size and form, from the smaller Cory Catfish, to the Giant Catfish of Southeast Asia. Catfish are important as both a source of food as well as a popular sport fish. Though perhaps not being the most beautiful of fish – the common catfish being scaleless like the eel – they are highly regarded as a prize fish due to their reputation for growing to considerable sizes and not giving up a fight easily! Catfish fishing tackle can range significantly, but in general centres around ledgering techniques since catfish can often be found towards the waterbed, and appears to like to hide in dark quiet waters, particularly where sheltered by shrubs and overhanging foliage.

If you have suitable catfish fishing tackle or indeed tackle that suitable for ledgering for the larger fish, probably the best way to get the most from your gear is to choose the correct bait. By all means, it is better to speak to a local fisherman that fishes your spot regularly, as species will vary as well as habits, but by and large deadbaiting and using the right live baits works a charm. Popular deadbaits include eels, roach, carp and rudd, and as previously mentioned, look for sheltered spots where you think the catfish might be likely to hide. When it comes to using live baits with your catfish fishing tackle, you can use the same species as already mentioned and can be fished off the bottom or just below the surface of the water.

Catfish are a great fish to hunt at night time, and you may find them easier to target too. Don’t forget if you’re going to give this a go, to add to you catfish fishing tackle extra warm clothing and night-fishing gear such as might-lights for your floats, bite-alarms, a bivvy bag or a bed chair and extra ‘smelly’ bait!

Description of the different natural baits to use when fishing

Edit Article |

Though a fish has 2 types of baits to use: natural and artificial. We, in this article, we focus on describing the former, the natural bait.

However, to be as rich and varied nature, bait to use is really comfortable and imagination of the fisherman, as the appetite of the fish species can really surprise us.

That’s why this time we will list briefly the most commonly used in general and how to prepare each one of them. Then talk about the anchovy , the eel , the yellow catfish , the shrimp , the crab , the beetle , the coludita , the bovine heart , the isoca , the worm , the corn , the mamacha , the mass , the Mochito , the tilapia The brown , the chicken gut and tarpon Tripero .
Anchovy: to prepare this bait cut off the head of the same progress on the body depending on the size of the hook.

Once cut the pass from tail to head where I would be completing the entire hook, tie is very important since it is bait used in the sea and the stark power of the hook.

Anguilla, this bait is utilized in the Rio de la Plata and the Parana Delta, for fishing with golds, surubíes and large patio. Simply thread the same two or three times by the body.

Barge Amarillo, in the fishing of dolphin fish in the Rio de la Plata, a very good option is the yellow catfish. To do this we choose a small catfish if it is from the coast and some a little older if shipped since the largest sizes of fish. To keep alive and well more attractive to predators, it comes alive from the hook by the back of catfish around the middle from front to back.

Shrimp: it is used at sea. It comes alive by cutting the head and passing it by the hook from the part where he was head to tail. Tie is very important because the ocean current it will draw the hook if it is not securely fastened.
Crab: is excellent bait for black drum, it embodies the belly; it can embody with or without shell and usually will take the legs.

Krab: a fish is fully lined, black and very hard plates, hence its name. It is very good bait for fishing of the Dorado and surubi, especially in the area is pompano, which are a blight in the dark. He embodies the hook from its back.

Coludita: this is the brunette girl. It is excellent for a variety of species, including Sea Bass River embodies passing the hook on the back.
Beef-heart: will cut the heart into pieces. Depending on the fish to fish we can do it in small strips or squares to pass through the hook. In the event that it is in strips, leave it hanging hook. It is very good bait for mullet (place them into strips and possibly colored red), and is very good for the vogue.

ISOC it come alive from head to tail, is very common use for fishing of mackerel in the spring of Paraná Guazu is a caterpillar.

Earthworm: have the common ground, and California (smaller and coloraditos). It is the universal bait of choice for freshwater fish. If fish embody small ideally pass by the hook, starting from the tip of it, and dragging on the hook to go running and is secure and ready to take it to the goldfish in its mouth. So we can make a dunk effective, in the case of fish older, the ideal is to make a bunch of worms, trying to stay loose ends of worms, so we have mobility and attract the fish in question.

Corn- soaked it is used, often with a little vanilla essence. It is very good bait for the vogue; it is placed one by one on the hook for their part of the environment by completing a few to cover the hook.

Mamacha: is the large version of the moraine. He keeps the hook twice as if enhebráramos. Used to catch and manguruyú surubí or large golden.

Mass: used for bream, carp and pacu. There are many varieties of these. Spices are added to many different, each has its mysterious recipe. It embodies covering everything bagel forming a hook, often adds a “spring” to better hold the mass.
Mochito: is a species of wolf fish smaller. It is used in the north of our country for the fishery of gold and to a lesser extent surubíes.

Tilapia: the pass by the hook from head to tail. Another good way is embodied from the back, which can be moved. In the case of larger cichlids, embodiments also from the back. There also are salt or directly embodied in fillets. They are very good for the silverfish manduva, manduví and to a lesser extent gold.

Morena: is the bait of choice for gold and surubí. Many other species will take it too, but Cando one embodies this fish; you are looking for above named species. Embodied in different forms depending on where you fish. In Entre Rios for example usually plays it by entering the hook through the mouth, and pulling just past the back of the head. In Corrientes, however, usually plays it by the back following the curve of the body of the moraine.

Chicken-Gut: click it from several sides, letting it stay loose strips of the hook. Like all come alive, always depends on what we fish and what size are these fish. In the event that the fish is small it will pass by the hook leaving the point of this in the open. It is good bait for mackerel, also for armed species under leather.

Tripero of Chad: it can be used rotten (for which we recommend gloves, the smell is not easy to be extracted), or otherwise mixed with flour is excellent bait for fishing for species under leather.

We hope that they can be used efficiently and you enjoy this beautiful activity.

Happy fishing!

Fishing and Earthquakes – Having an Eel of a Time

It was the family summer vacation of 1982 and the Scottish Highlands were enjoying one of its rare blazing hot summers.

My dad had just bought me my first ever fishing rod from the local fishing tackle store, it was a bright shiny yellow which stood out a mile, and perhaps this was a sign of things to come!

I knew nothing about fishing but couldn’t wait to test the new rod out in the nearby Loch. My dad assembled the fishing tackle for me and off I set, fully expecting to catch lots of fish, although I hadn’t planned as far as what to do with them once I had caught them!

It was a gloriously sunny, warm day and after just a few minutes walk from where we were staying, I reached the bank of the Loch and settled into position. A friendly neighbour from one of the other log cabins was fishing just a little further up the bank and it seemed he was already having great success with his landing net already showing signs of activity!

It would only be a matter of time, I thought naively, before I was reeling in giant trout, carp and bass! I decided I wouldn’t sit down because there was sure to be lots of activity and fishing action!

I began to notice that the guy further up the bank was actually making a catch what seemed to me to be every few minutes. I also noticed and the guy confirmed as he cursed, “Another wretched eel!”, that all he was hauling in were eels! Nonetheless at least he was catching something.

An hour must have passed and I had long since sat down. The man was still cursing his luck and still reeling in the eels, while I was cursing the fact that he seemed to be stealing them all!

When I had finally given up several hours later, the final results went something like this, “man up the bank, at least 30 eels, and little ole me, 2 pieces of weed and a crisp packet!”

A couple of years later on a holiday in Wales, I went one better! In the midst of one of the most powerful earthquakes in the UK for years, I was net fishing in a stream and caught my first minnow! Hooray! I didn’t find out about the earthquake till later because I hadn’t felt a thing.

It is fair to say I am no expert fisherman but I have always retained an interest in fishing despite my humble beginnings.
