Category Archives: Carp Fishing Basics

my friends and i are big on fishing during the summer time. there is a resivoir right behind our houses so during the summer, we go fishing alot. the biggest fish i have seen get pulled out of there was about 2 feet bass. there are also a lot of carp. we want to try ice fishing. these are the fish that we catch in the summer, we go over to a big cove were there are many big and small fish -carp -bass -pirch -sunny’s -and occasionaly pumpkinseeds those are the fish that we catch in the summer. what one of these fish survives through the winter and during the winter do they move into deeper waters? or can we still catch them in the coves? our current set up for winter fishing is a sinker rig, with 1 hook about 1 foot above the sinking weight. on the hook we used tightly compressed bread balls to try and catch somthing. we didnt get anything yet. any tips on how to ice fish? and how is a fish’s living habitat changed during the cold months? thanks for all the help!

There has been a giant fish wading arounf my pond for a while. I rarely see him. Today I finanly saw that he is a carp. He is at least 20lbs, and 36 inches long. I don’t know much about catching carp so if anyone can give me some good tips on maybe how to catch this guy (altho I almost don’t want too, it’s like he’s so big you worship him rather than dare to catch him lol). What type of pole would I need? What lb test line would I need? What type of bait/lures do they usually go for? Any info you can give me is great Thanks

Homemade Carp Groundbait + Carp Fishing Question?

Tom asked:

Hi, I am fishing for carp using a method feeder. In the feeder I usually put my pellets with some groundbait to hold them in. Then I squeeze as many maggots as I can onto my hook (size 16 I think). I have caught quite a few carp (each 1-2lbs) by doing this but I would like to know how to make my own groundbait that will attract the bigger carp (5/6 lbs or more). I would need this to be quite simple but effective. Also is there any other way that I can catch bigger carp?

Thanks Tom 🙂
